This is a scheme for an entirely new house in traditional style on an island in the west of Scotland. I am not opposed to new houses looking new but in this case, our clients asked for a design which included some of their favourite features from 16th and 17th Century architecture. I felt that a new house which refers to old features ran the risk of a muddled appearance so I tried to design a believable 17th Century Scottish house.
